While most couples still want to have a first dance at their wedding it’s not a given. It’s your day so you do get to decide of course. Which camp are you in right now?
YES WE WANT A FIRST DANCE
Fantastic! All you need to decide then is what your first dance song is and how you’d like it played. This is really completely individual to you. Couples choose songs that range from slow love songs, to mashups TikTok style songs (very rarely lol). The important thing is that this is your first dance and should reflect the two of you.
The options for performing the music are…
1. We can play it live
If it’s a song we need to learn, I’ll listen to it to confirm if it’s something we’ll be able to really do well for you. We charge a small fee (around $90) to cover the few hours it takes us to learn your song properly.
If it’s a song on our setlist here, then all our band know these already and there’s no additional cost.
2. Spotify
This is more popular than you might think for a few reasons. If you’re learning some choreography then the song will be played exactly as you’ve practiced. Same speed and same order, everything. That’s going to give you a lot of comfort when you’re doing your rehearsed steps and can be a great choice as a result.
There’s no cost for us to do this and we’ll have the song ready on spotify to be played through our band PA system. Then straight after your song finishes – we start the party.
WE’RE NOT KEEN ON A FIRST DANCE
This is also a comment I hear a little bit lol. ‘We’re not dancers so can you just start playing?’
A first dance is really a chance to get everyone onto the dancefloor right away and announces your party has started. Then our job is to keep them there – which we’re really good at and work our butts off to achieve for you. The alternative is the band starts playing and people are confused, ‘is there no first dance’, ‘do i get up? I’m having a good chat right now’… A first dance is a gift to dancefloor so even if you’re not going to do a dance – just being on the dancefloor to kick the party off gets buy in from everyone without even having to try.
It’s your day and we’re happy to do whatever you’d like. But wouldn’t you prefer to start off your party with all your friends on the floor around you and then keeping it that way all night?
STILL NOT SURE? HOW ABOUT A FAKE FIRST DANCE?
If you’re still not convinced about a first dance, then there’s another option. We call it a fake first dance and it just means you gather everyone around as though you were going to have a first dance. Then we play a banger and everyone starts partying and we’re away.
Works every time and it’ll give you an extra hour of partying out of the gate that you’ll almost definitely not get without. The reason it works is that it shout’s loud and clear to all your guests that formalities, food, and chit chat are finished and it’s time to party! You can thank us later.
FINALLY HERE ARE SOME MORE THOUGHTS GENERALLY ASIDE FROM THE IMPACT ON YOUR DANCE FLOOR
The first dance at a wedding is a beautiful and intimate moment that couples share on their special day. This tradition has been around for centuries and it’s a time when the couple can express their love and affection for each other through a romantic dance.
One of the main reasons why having a first dance is important is that it creates a special and unforgettable moment that the couple will cherish forever. The first dance is the first dance as husband and wife, making it a memorable moment that will be captured in photographs and videos to look back on for years to come.
From our point of view a big reason why the first dance is important is that it sets the tone for the rest of the reception. It is a moment of joy and celebration, and it can help to break the ice and get the party started. The first dance can also serve as an inspiration for the other guests to take to the dance floor and join in on the celebration.
The first dance can also be a great way for the couple to express their personalities and showcase their unique style. Some couples choose a traditional ballroom dance while others opt for a more creative and modern routine. It can be a fun way to add a personal touch to the wedding.
Finally, it is a way to start a new chapter in life, it’s a moment of transition, the couple is starting a new journey together and the first dance is a symbol of that, a moment of pure love and happiness.
In conclusion, having a first dance at your wedding is an important tradition that creates a special and unforgettable moment for the couple, sets the tone for the reception, allows for personal expression, strengthens the couple’s relationship, and marks the start of a new chapter in life. It’s a moment that should be cherished and enjoyed by all.
